Blood work

If your cat or dog is showing possible signs of poor health, your veterinarian might suggest blood tests to confirm a diagnosis. These tests are done right in our lab and will give us various information about your pet’s health, so we can help prevent, diagnose and treat certain health conditions and diseases.

What can we analyze through blood work?

When we do blood tests, we can check for the following:

  • Blood sugar levels
  • Nutrient deficiency
  • Possible bacteria
  • White blood cells and platelets
  • Possible infection
  • Levels of certain hormones
  • Kidney problems
  • Liver problems
  • Levels of certain chemical substances
  • Etc.

When should you have your pet’s blood checked?

Blood tests aren’t just used for diagnostic purposes—they’re also standard pre-op procedure for pets. The vet will often do blood work before surgery, regardless of the pet’s age. This helps us assess the condition of your pet’s organs before putting them to sleep. We want to make sure your cat or dog doesn’t have any health issues that could increase the risks of general anesthesia.
