Cardiology

At Hôpital vétérinaire des Trois-Lacs, we take care of your pet and their heart thanks to our expertise in the cardiovascular system and the health conditions that can affect it. We offer many cardiology services such as specialized tests, treatments and cardiology monitoring.

What is veterinary cardiology?

Cardiology is a veterinary specialty that diagnoses and treats cardiovascular disease that affects your cat or dog’s heart and blood vessels.

Our cardiology service includes tests that allow us to diagnose, monitor and treat heart disease.

What kind of heart disease can affect your cat or dog?

Your feline or canine friend can develop various heart conditions, such as cardiomyopathy, which attacks the heart muscles, as well as high blood pressure, pericarditis and valve problems.

What are the signs and symptoms of heart problems in cats and dogs?

There are many signs that your cat or dog may be suffering from heart disease. Here are a few:

  • Inability to exercise
  • Coughing
  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
  • Rapid breathing while resting
  • Fainting or weakness
  • Agitation and restlessness (including at night)
  • Unusually fast or slow heart rate
  • Unusual swelling
  • Swollen abdomen
  • Hind leg weakness or paralysis (only in cats)

If your pet has one or more of these symptoms, call us so we can book an exam.

What happens during the cardiology consultation?

The Hôpital vétérinaire des Trois-Lacs team will first do a complete physical exam on your pet. Further tests will be done if necessary, including a blood pressure check, ultrasound and an electrocardiogram (ECG).
